The acerola, also known as the Barbados cherry, is a sweet and sour fruit native to Central and South America.
Similar to the common cherry, acerola typically has a subtle sweet flavour with a slight touch of acidity. This berry has recently attracted the attention of the scientific community due to its interesting health benefits.
Acerola is well known to be extremely rich in vitamin C, but the fruit also contains essential nutrients such as vitamins A, B1, B2 and B3, as well as multiple bioflavins and carotenoids with important nutritional and antioxidant properties.
